This class will be taught by Thupal-la, assisted by Stacey Arnett. Thupal-la is a Tibetan Refugee born in India. Her birth name is Thupten Palmo and we know her best as Lhoppön Rinpoche’s life partner and the mother of Yumka.  She studied for many years with Mewa Khenchen Thubten Ozer Rinpoche, a great Dzogchen Master and Thupal-la’s root Guru. Thupal-la had the good fortune to assist her Guru as well as be his long time student. She is a devout and accomplished practitioner.

This is one of Mipham Shedra’s Foundation Curriculum Classes and is a required class. This class is an excellent introduction for those who are new to our Temple or new to Tibetan Buddhism. Thupla-la has much to offer us making this a wonderful class for the more experienced student as well. This class will give all of us an opportunity to learn to care for our Shrine, learn to make butter lamps and learn how to open and “bless” the Shrine before meditations. We will also get instruction in how to set up and care for a simple home shrine. Thupal-la will explain all the beautiful and intricate aspects of Mipham Shedra’s Temple Shrine. The class will also cover all the basic protocols and requisite Temple decorum, in particular how to behave when in the presence of Rinpoche — bowing, sitting, giving respect, appropriate dress, etc. We will also learn how to offer a teacher’s gift and the use of a Kata in doing so.
